Leading e-commerce platform Meesho has unveiled ambitious plans to generate approximately 500,000 seasonal job opportunities within its extensive seller and logistics network. This substantial workforce expansion represents a remarkable 50% increase compared to the seasonal employment offered by Meesho during the previous year.
The move is in direct response to the soaring demand expected during the upcoming festive season.
Meesho's strategy involves facilitating nearly 200,000 job opportunities through strategic collaborations with prominent third-party logistics partners, including Ecom Express, DTDC, Elastic Run, Loadshare, Delhivery, Shadowfax, and Xpressbees, among others.
Significantly, over 60% of these employment opportunities will be concentrated in tier 3 and 4 regions, focusing on critical roles such as first-mile and delivery associates responsible for a wide range of tasks, including delivery picking, sorting, loading, unloading, and return inspections.
In addition to its partnership with logistics players, Meesho anticipates that its network of sellers will employ over 300,000 seasonal workers to bolster their operations during the festive season. These seasonal employees will play vital roles in supporting Meesho's sellers across various functions, including manufacturing, packaging, and sorting.
Furthermore, an impressive 80% of Meesho's sellers have expressed their intentions to diversify their product offerings by venturing into new categories, such as fashion accessories and festive decor. Remarkably, over 30% of Meesho's sellers are making investments to secure additional storage space to accommodate their expanding inventories.
Sourabh Pandey, CXO of Fulfilment and Experience at Meesho, commented on the significant move, stating, "Since we are anticipating a substantial uptick in demand during this festive season, we are thrilled to have enabled our sellers and third-party logistics partners to generate more than 500,000 job opportunities within the ecosystem."
