Ishan Kishan delivered a record-breaking performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, smashing a brilliant century and helping Jharkhand lift their first-ever title — while also surpassing MS Dhoni’s long-standing world record for most sixes by a wicketkeeper-captain in a T20 season.
In the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy – India’s national T20 tournament, Ishan Kishan was in exceptional form against Haryana.
The Jharkhand captain and wicketkeeper-batter smashed 101 runs off just 49 balls, hitting 10 sixes and 6 fours, and completed his century in 45 deliveries.
This was his fifth century in SMAT across 62 innings, equalling Abhishek Sharma.
Kishan also hit 33 sixes in SMAT 2025 — the most by any wicketkeeper-captain in any T20 tournament (international or domestic franchise).
Earlier, the record belonged to MS Dhoni (30 sixes, IPL 2018) and Nicholas Pooran (30, ILT20 2023-24).
However, in the current T20I pecking order, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma are ahead.
On Thursday, Kishan powered Jharkhand to a 69-run win over Haryana, helping the team claim their first-ever Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title.
Jharkhand scored a massive 262/3, thanks to Kishan’s explosive century and a strong batting performance throughout.
Medium pacer Anukul Roy struck early with two wickets in his first over, and Jharkhand bowled Haryana out for 193, despite a fighting half-century from Yashvardhan Dalal (53).
Roy also contributed 40 runs off 20 balls.
With this win, Jharkhand became the 12th state to win India’s premier domestic T20 tournament.
Batting first, Kishan built a decisive 177-run partnership for the second wicket with Kumar Kushagra, who smashed 81 off 38 balls.
This was Kishan’s second century of the tournament.
The 27-year-old finished as the tournament’s leading run-getter with 517 runs in 10 innings at a strike rate of 197.32.
His form couldn’t have come at a better time, as selectors will soon meet to pick India’s T20I squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup.
Kishan attacked relentlessly, hitting eight more boundaries and bringing up his century with a stylish one-handed six over extra cover.
He was eventually bowled by Sumit Kumar in the 15th over, while Kushagra departed soon after.
Late hitting from Anukul Roy and Robin Minz (31 off 14) ensured an imposing target.
Haryana began poorly, losing captain Ankit Kumar (0) and Ashish Siwach (0) early.
Despite partnerships built by Arsh Ranga (17) and Nishant Sindhu (31), Jharkhand took control when Roy removed both set batters in the same over.
Jharkhand: 262/3 in 20 overs (Ishan Kishan 101, Kumar Kushagra 89; Sumit Kumar 1/41)
Haryana: 193 all out in 18.3 overs (Yashvardhan Dalal 53, Samant Jakhar 38; Sushant Mishra 3/21)
