The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to resume following a week-long suspension, with the action expected to return on May 17. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the tournament will be conducted across four venues, although the final confirmation of all locations is still awaited.
The BCCI suspended the tournament on safety grounds amid rising tensions in the region. The incident that triggered the suspension was the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals game in Dharamshala, which had to be stopped midway due to emergency evacuation protocols. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision in an official release, citing the collective interest of players, franchises, sponsors, and fans.
After the announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the situation de-escalated significantly. This led to the BCCI granting the green signal for the tournament to resume. The resumption will be held under heightened safety measures and close coordination with security agencies.
So far, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai have been confirmed as the primary host cities. The fourth venue is still under discussion. Although Kolkata was initially considered, concerns over potential rainfall have raised the possibility of shifting the location to another southern city, with Visakhapatnam (Vizag) being a likely alternative.
The final, originally expected to be hosted in Kolkata, may now be relocated due to the threat of rain disrupting play. A senior BCCI official shared with ANI that a final decision on the venue will be taken after a thorough weather assessment. While the qualifier and eliminator venues are expected to remain the same, the final match location is still being evaluated.
