News Synopsis

According to sources, India’s biggest oil company Indian Oil Company Limited has struck a deal with Geneva-based energy and commodities trader Vitol to purchase 3 million barrels of Russian Ural. These will be delivered in the month of May. This will be India’s first purchase of Russian grade Ural after Russia invaded its neighbor Ukraine. These sources state that IOC has no problems in this deal because “oil as a commodity is not banned". Another thing is that IOC is not purchasing this Oil from a sanctioned company. Indian Oil Company purchased this oil at a discount of $20 to $25 per barrel. Other than this, IOC has also bought 2 million barrels of Abu Dhabi's Murban crude, as well as one million barrels of Nigeria's Akpo and Forcados, and one million barrels of Cameroon's Kole. Earlier, Indian Oil Corporation also purchased 2 million barrels of Urals crude from European traders Vitol and Trafigura in a tender for high-sulfur oil, which will be delivered in April. IOC is not purchasing Russian crude oil due to insurance risk anymore.
