Amid heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan, two major airlines—IndiGo and Air India—have cancelled multiple flight operations across northern and western India for May 13, 2025. The cancellations are being implemented as a safety measure due to recent military developments and suspected terrorist activity near the border areas.
As a result of restricted airspace and increased security alerts, both airlines have temporarily grounded operations to safeguard passengers and staff.
IndiGo Airlines issued an official announcement regarding the suspension of its services to and from the following destinations:
Jammu
Amritsar
Chandigarh
Leh
Srinagar
Rajkot
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo said:
“In light of the latest developments and with your safety as our utmost priority, flights to and from Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Leh, Srinagar, and Rajkot are cancelled for 13th May 2025.”
The airline further acknowledged the inconvenience caused and urged passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
“We understand how this may disrupt your travel plans, and regret the inconvenience caused. Our teams are actively monitoring the situation and will promptly keep you informed of further updates. Before heading to the airport, please check your flight status on our website or app. If you need assistance, we’re just a message or call away. and forever ready to help,” the statement added.
Air India has also grounded operations to and from several major cities for Tuesday, May 13, in response to the tense geopolitical situation.
Jammu
Leh
Jodhpur
Amritsar
Bhuj
Jamnagar
Chandigarh
Rajkot
The airline made the announcement through its official X handle:
“In view of the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind, flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot are cancelled for Tuesday, 13th May.”
“We are monitoring the situation and will keep you updated,” the statement added.
On Monday, May 12, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced the reopening of 32 airports across northern and western India for civil aviation operations. These airports had been temporarily shut down for several days amid the escalating India-Pakistan conflict. The closure had originally been extended until May 15, but flight operations resumed earlier than expected due to improved local conditions.
The latest wave of tensions follows a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, in which 26 people lost their lives. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror sites located within Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
In response to India’s counteroffensive, Pakistan resorted to unprovoked escalations, including the use of artillery and drone surveillance near the Line of Control, thereby increasing the threat level for civilian aviation.
The temporary suspension of flights by IndiGo and Air India to several northern and western Indian cities reflects the growing concern over passenger safety amid rising India-Pakistan tensions. With Operation Sindoor marking a significant military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, the security landscape along the border has intensified.
While the Airports Authority of India has resumed civil flight operations at 32 airports, the situation remains volatile. Travelers are strongly advised to stay updated through official airline channels and avoid unnecessary travel to sensitive regions until stability is fully restored. Both airlines have assured continued monitoring and swift updates, underscoring their commitment to safety and preparedness in uncertain times.
