With the AI race heating up in Silicon Valley, Elon Musk’s AI startup xAI is joining the race to attract top talent. Following Meta’s formation of an elite AI research team, xAI has launched a comprehensive recruitment campaign to bring in specialists across engineering, design, coding, and finance.
This hiring initiative aligns with xAI’s broader vision of building “X Money”, a native payments platform set to support the digital infrastructure of X, formerly Twitter.

Among the notable positions is a Technical Lead, Payments role based in Palo Alto. This role plays a critical part in building a next-generation payments system designed to serve more than 600 million monthly users on the X platform.
“Candidates for this position are expected to possess more than eight years of experience in backend or systems engineering, particularly within the fintech sector.”

This recruitment push underscores xAI’s ambition to form a multidisciplinary team that merges AI expertise with domain-specific knowledge, mirroring Meta’s Superintelligence Labs approach.
However, unlike Meta, xAI is not offering record-breaking salaries, even though its hiring momentum is equally aggressive.
Elon Musk’s xAI is stepping up its ambitions in the AI and fintech arenas with a large-scale recruitment drive, aimed at building the foundation of its upcoming payments system, "X Money," and improving AI models through specialized training.
With a broad range of positions available across engineering, finance, and remote AI training, the company is clearly signaling its intent to compete with tech giants like Meta in both innovation and talent acquisition.
While roles like the Technical Lead in Payments offer substantial salaries and impactful responsibilities, the AI Tutor positions show that xAI is equally focused on enhancing data quality and model accuracy.
The company’s emphasis on fast, efficient hiring processes and flexibility for remote work reflects a modern approach to recruitment. By combining AI research with practical applications in fintech and beyond, xAI is working to build a robust, future-facing team—without the sky-high compensation headlines associated with its competitors.
