Time and again, we have put forward our stance on the re-opening of public spaces amidst the anticipation of the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are not alone in this. Many researchers and scientists from around the world are keeping a close eye on India. Many people also believe that India is slowly approaching a new stage of this virus. This stage is a stage where the spread of the virus or infection is maintained at a baseline level. If that happens in India, COVID-19 will become the everyday reality for many people like Malaria, Dengue, etc.
Amidst all this, the hurry to re-open schools, universities, etc may not be the best move. The Delhi Ministry should look into their decision and if they think it is the right one, then they should assist schools in making certain changes according to COVID guidelines. This will help stop the spread of the virus even if one or two students in a class turn out COVID positive. There should be proper social distancing between students and they must wear masks whenever there’s a crowd. It is precautions like these that will help us stop the third wave.
