News Synopsis

BMW India is gearing up for its most significant event of the year on July 24. The Bavarian automaker will introduce at least four new models, including luxury sedans, electric crossovers, and electric two-wheelers. Let’s take a closer look at the models set to hit Indian roads next month.

BMW 5 Series LWB

The all-new BMW 5 Series, in its long wheelbase (LWB) format, recently made its debut in India. This launch makes India the first right-hand drive market and the second globally to receive the 5 Series in its LWB version. Although BMW has yet to reveal the sedan entirely, several crucial details about this luxury saloon are already known.

BMW claims the 5 Series LWB is the largest sedan in its segment, measuring 5,175mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,520mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,105mm, making it larger than the upcoming next-gen Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB.

Features include a new twin-screen setup with a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, both running on BMW 8.5 OS.

Other highlights include four-zone climate control, an 18-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system, ventilated and powered front seats with memory function, and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Pre-bookings for the new 5 Series LWB are currently open at all BMW dealerships and the company’s official website.

Mini Cooper S

BMW will also launch the fourth-generation Mini Cooper S next month. Pre-bookings opened earlier this month with a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The new-gen Mini Cooper S features several subtle cosmetic updates over the outgoing model, including a larger 9.5-inch round central touchscreen infotainment system with an OLED display, MINI Connected car tech with an Intelligent Personal Assistant, and a Fisheye In-car Camera.

The new Mini Cooper S will be powered by the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as its predecessor, now delivering 201 bhp and 300 Nm of peak torque—a bump of 26 bhp and 20 Nm. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a standard 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Mini Countryman Electric

Alongside the Cooper S, Mini will also launch the all-electric derivative of the Countryman in India for the first time. The battery-powered crossover can be pre-booked with a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The Countryman electric retains a familiar design with subtle tweaks to distinguish it from its fossil-fueled sibling. It shares the same features as the Mini Cooper S but adds Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

The Mini Countryman electric is powered by a front-mounted electric motor generating 201 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.6 seconds. The base variant offers a range of 462 km on a single charge, while the more powerful SE ALL4 variant, which dishes out 494 Nm of torque, offers a peak single-charge range of 433 km (WLTP).

BMW CE 04

BMW Motorrad will launch the CE 04 electric scooter on July 24, marking the first battery-powered two-wheeler from the German brand in India. The CE 04 is powered by a 15kW, permanent magnet, liquid-cooled synchronous electric motor drawing energy from an 8.9 kWh battery. This powertrain offers a peak range of 130 km on a single charge and can reach a top speed of 120 kmph.

In the USA, the CE 04 retails for USD 12,430 (approx. Rs. 10.38 lakh). As a Completely Built Unit (CBU), it is expected to have a similar price tag in India, making it the most expensive scooter in the country.
