Bharti Airtel has announced the launch of its new Priority Postpaid service, powered by advanced 5G slicing technology, in what the telecom operator describes as India’s first slicing-based premium postpaid experience.
The company said the service is designed to provide postpaid customers with a more stable, reliable, and uninterrupted connectivity experience, especially during periods of heavy network traffic. Airtel introduced the offering through its Fastlane technology, which uses intelligent 5G network slicing to optimize capacity and improve performance for priority users.
“This service is specially built for busy customers who depend on uninterrupted connectivity for work, entertainment, or online collaboration,” Airtel said in an exchange filing dated May 19, 2026.
The launch reflects Airtel’s broader strategy to strengthen its 5G ecosystem and deliver differentiated digital experiences as competition intensifies in India’s telecom sector.
Airtel explained that it has upgraded its 5G infrastructure with advanced slicing capabilities to improve network efficiency and intelligently allocate bandwidth.
“For this service, Airtel said it has “upgraded its 5G network with advanced capabilities of slicing technology. This makes the network more efficient, creates more capacity, and provides the capability to use this capacity in a targeted manner for delivery of a superior experience for Priority customers. By intelligently and dynamically segmenting network capacity, Airtel is offering a stable and dependable experience for postpaid customers, even when traffic demand is high.””
Network slicing is considered one of the key technological advancements enabled by standalone (SA) 5G architecture. It allows telecom operators to create virtual segments of a network tailored for specific user requirements or services.
Industry experts believe the technology could significantly improve user experiences in crowded environments such as concerts, sports stadiums, transportation hubs, and urban marketplaces.
The telecom operator stated that similar slicing-based 5G services have already been introduced in countries including the United States, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia.
“Airtel’s launch is the first such launch in India, reflecting Airtel’s continued investment in building a smarter, more resilient, and future-ready digital network and reinforces its commitment to combining advanced technology with customer-centric innovation,” the telco said.
Commenting on the launch, Shashwat Sharma emphasized the company’s focus on customer-centric innovation.
“Our focus at Airtel is on delivering meaningful innovations that enhance our customers’ experience. Priority Postpaid is our latest innovation powered by the 5G slicing technology. It provides a superior, more reliable, and dependable experience to our customers — whether they are attending a client call in traffic, or streaming at a packed concert, or booking a cab in a crowded market.”
The company believes the service will particularly benefit professionals, remote workers, content streamers, gamers, and users who rely heavily on uninterrupted mobile connectivity.
Airtel also revealed that its 5G network is now fully standalone-ready.
“Our 5G network is now fully SA-ready, FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) is running fully on SA, while mobile customers are transitioning in a phased manner. We continue to refine our digital tools and depth of data science to improve our experience and reduce customer churn. Customer obsession is deeply embedded in our culture that we have built over the years,” Shashwat Sharma said during the Q4 FY26 Earnings call.
Standalone 5G architecture is viewed as essential for enabling advanced capabilities such as ultra-low latency, network slicing, smart automation, and enterprise-grade digital services.
The telecom industry expects SA-based networks to play a crucial role in supporting emerging technologies including AI-driven applications, IoT ecosystems, smart manufacturing, and connected mobility solutions.
Airtel has rebranded its postpaid offerings under the Priority Postpaid category, combining enhanced 5G connectivity with entertainment and productivity benefits.

Includes Airtel Xstream Play, Adobe Express Premium, and 100 GB cloud storage.
Includes all Individual Plan benefits plus subscriptions to Amazon Prime and Jio Hotstar.
Adds Apple TV+ and Apple Music access.
Continues all existing premium benefits including Apple services.
Adds a Netflix subscription alongside all other benefits.
Airtel confirmed that the service is automatically available to existing postpaid users. Prepaid users can switch through the Airtel App or by visiting Airtel stores.
The company also stated that customers can access the service on any 5G SA-enabled smartphone with the latest software updates.
The launch has also sparked discussions around network neutrality and whether prioritised services could create unequal internet access.
However, industry experts cited in reports argued that Airtel’s implementation remains compliant with existing net neutrality principles.
“For this (network slicing) service, Airtel has upgraded its 5G network with advanced capabilities of slicing technology. This makes the network more efficient and creates more capacity. This additional capability can be used in a targeted manner for delivery of a superior experience for priority customers, and does not violate net neutrality,” a telco executive reportedly said.
Anupam Shrivastava also reportedly noted that the technology is content-agnostic and optimizes network efficiency without discriminating between applications or services.
Meanwhile, Cellular Operators Association of India Director General SP Kochhar stated:
“Slicing in general will not violate net neutrality, given pricing and quality. In fact, the technology will unlock the benefits of the next generation (5G) network.”
