The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken a major step towards digitising Aadhaar services with the launch of a new Aadhaar app. The application allows users to manage their Aadhaar details directly from their smartphones, eliminating the need to visit enrolment centres for certain updates. One of the most awaited features—the ability to update the mobile number linked to Aadhaar—is now live, offering significant relief to millions of users who previously faced long queues, paperwork, and delays.
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has officially launched a new Aadhaar app that allows users to manage their digital identity, carry out offline Aadhaar verification, and update key details such as mobile numbers and addresses, all from a smartphone. This means users can now change the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar without visiting an enrolment centre.
For individuals who have changed their phone numbers, lost access to an old SIM card, or postponed updates due to time constraints, the app offers a faster and more convenient alternative.
For Aadhaar users who have been waiting to change or update the phone number linked to their Aadhaar, the “Mobile Number Update” option is now live in the new Aadhaar app. The feature allows users to request a mobile number change anytime, anywhere using OTP-based authentication and face verification.
This digital approach aligns with UIDAI’s broader goal of reducing physical touchpoints while ensuring secure identity verification.

To update your mobile number on Aadhaar card, make sure you have the latest version of the Aadhaar app installed on your Android or iOS device.
Open the Aadhaar app and log in using Aadhaar-based authentication.
Go to the ‘Services’ section on the home screen.
Select ‘Update Mobile Number’.
The app will show your currently registered mobile number. Enter the new mobile number you want to link.
An OTP will be sent to the new number. Enter the OTP to verify the request.
Complete the authentication process as prompted in the app.
Once the OTP is verified, the update request is submitted to UIDAI.
Do note that updating your mobile number or address through the Aadhaar app involves a minimal fee. There is a service charge of Rs 75, which can be paid directly within the app.
UIDAI also notes that mobile number updates requested through the app can take up to 30 days to reflect in Aadhaar records. Despite this processing time, the app-based update removes the need for physical forms, photocopies, or in-person appointments.
The Aadhaar app also allows users to update their Aadhaar address digitally.
