News Synopsis

The 8th Pay Commission may soon bring major salary revisions for central government employees, potentially raising the basic pay of a peon from Rs 18,000 to Rs 58,500. The Federation of National Postal Organizations (FNPO) has suggested a multi-level fitment factor and higher annual increments, which could impact employees from Level 1 to Level 18.

8th Pay Commission Update: Salary Hike Likely for Central Government Employees

The Modi government is expected to implement the 8th Pay Commission soon, benefiting around 50 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners.

The FNPO has requested the government to:

  • Increase the fitment factor from 3.0 to 3.25

  • Raise the annual increment to 5%

These changes aim to boost salaries, especially for lower- and middle-level employees.

“The current basic salary of a peon is Rs 18,000. With a 3.25 fitment factor, this basic pay could increase to Rs 58,500.”

Proposed Multi-Level Fitment Factor

The FNPO has recommended a multi-level fitment factor to ensure uniformity across employee grades.
