As 2025 begins, a significant 82% of Indian professionals are preparing to seek new job opportunities, according to the latest LinkedIn research. However, the platform also noted that 55% of job seekers found it more challenging to secure a role in 2024, reflecting the complexities of the current labor market.
The LinkedIn report highlights a sluggish labor market in 2024, leaving 15% of professionals still searching for opportunities carried over into the new year. Interestingly, 37% of workers have opted out of job hunting altogether in 2025, citing market difficulties. On the brighter side, 58% are optimistic that the job market will improve this year.
"The job market is tough, but it’s a reminder for Indians to take a more thoughtful approach to their job search. Building the right skills is key, but so is keeping your LinkedIn profile updated and focusing on roles that truly match with your skills," said Nirajita Banerjee, career expert and senior managing editor for LinkedIn India.
On the employer side, 69% of HR professionals in India reported difficulty in finding suitable candidates for open roles. Over 27% of recruiters spend 3-5 hours daily reviewing applications, with only half meeting the required criteria.
LinkedIn's "Work Change Report" outlines promising trends for professionals. A notable 60% of Indian workers are open to switching industries, while 39% plan to acquire new skills to unlock better opportunities. The report reveals a 140% rise in the rate at which LinkedIn members have been adding new skills to their profiles since 2022. Artificial intelligence is cited as a key driver of skill demand, reshaping job roles across sectors.
Additionally, LinkedIn unveiled its new ‘job match’ feature, designed to align users' skills and experience with relevant job postings, streamlining the application process.
