News Synopsis

We are sure that when you think of quilting, a happy image of a grandma making quilts might be the ideal image but at a correction facility in Missouri, the order of the things is slightly different, here prison inmates are taught how to quilts and over the past ten years, some 2000 quilts have made and given to state’s foster care center and to other charitable organizations.

This concept comes from “Restorative Justice '' where punishment is the aim, rehabilitation is stressed and inmates are given new chances at life so as not to fall in line with crimes anymore. Such lessons at making quilts give a sense of community feeling, a sense of love and care. Most of the time, inmates are not aware of the child for whom they are making a quilt, but if they do, they make sure to create a personalized quilt in order to let the kids know that there is someone who cares for them and that they are not alone.
