News Synopsis

Maruti Suzuki is set to enter India’s electric vehicle (EV) market with its first all-electric SUV, the e-Vitara, launching on December 2, 2025. The EV was first unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo 2025 and is entirely developed and manufactured in India, marking a major milestone in the automaker’s journey toward sustainable mobility.

Global Presence Before Indian Launch

Even before its official launch in India, the e-Vitara has already made waves internationally. On August 26, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, which produces hybrid battery electrodes, a critical EV component, domestically. On the same day, he also flagged off the first export batch of the e-Vitara, signaling India’s growing prominence in electric vehicle manufacturing.

Exports officially commenced on September 1, 2025, from Pipavav Port, with more than 2,900 units shipped to 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden. With plans to expand exports to over 100 countries, the e-Vitara is shaping up to be Maruti Suzuki’s first truly global electric SUV.

E-Vitara Exterior Design and Dimensions

The e-Vitara features a modern and clean design, combining contemporary styling with practical dimensions for urban and highway driving. Key measurements include:

  • Length: 4,275mm

  • Width: 1,800mm

  • Height: 1,640mm

  • Wheelbase: 2,700mm

The SUV employs a lightweight 3-in-1 electric drive system integrating the motor, inverter, and transmission in a single unit, which enhances efficiency and reduces overall vehicle mass.

E-Vitara Battery Options and Performance

Maruti Suzuki will offer the e-Vitara with two battery pack options to cater to different user requirements:

  • 49kWh Battery: Single front-mounted motor, producing 144hp and 189Nm torque – ideal for city and highway use.

  • 61kWh Battery: Front-wheel-drive, delivering 174hp, with a more powerful all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant globally featuring an additional 65hp motor on the rear axle, for a combined output of 184hp and 300Nm.

Top-spec models are expected to offer over 500km of driving range, positioning the e-Vitara as one of the longest-range EVs in its segment. It is not yet confirmed if the AWD variant will be available in India.

E-Vitara Interior Features

The e-Vitara boasts a premium cabin, arguably the most luxurious interior ever seen in a Maruti Suzuki model:

  • Soft-touch materials with dual-tone color scheme

These initiatives aim to make ownership convenient, reliable, and hassle-free for new EV buyers.

A Landmark Step for Maruti Suzuki

The e-Vitara marks a major milestone for Maruti Suzuki with its modern design, long-range capability, premium interiors, global manufacturing footprint, and advanced safety systems. It signifies the company’s first major step into the electric vehicle segment, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable future in mobility.
