News Synopsis

Numerous international producers of electronics and hardware have petitioned the Centre for the early release of payments due to them under the ambitious production-linked incentive (PLI) programme of the nation, people directly familiar with the matter have told.

According to them, postponed payouts are causing top businesses, including computer giant Dell, iPhone manufacturer Wistron, electronics manufacturer Dixon, and Netweb Technologies, among others, to be unsure about their future investment plans.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has received a number of petitions calling for the expedited payment of incentives. According to sources, representatives of these companies were also scheduled to meet with the ministry secretary on Wednesday to make their case.
The nodal agency responsible for reviewing and releasing incentives, Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI NSE 2.56 percent), has not been able to finish the necessary audit of submitted claims, according to several individuals from the IT ministry and company executives who spoke with ET.

“In the last six months alone, the auditors at IFCI have changed three times and every time a new team is appointed, the process has to start from scratch,” said a person directly in the know. “(Beneficiaries) have to explain incremental sales, get the data and other investments verified and then make a case for why they are eligible for the incentive,” a source said.
