India on Course to be a 5 Trillion Economy by FY26: V Anantha Nageswaran

News Synopsis

Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V. Anantha Nageswaran estimates that by the financial year 2025-26 or 2026-27, India can emerge as a $5 trillion economy. Addressing a press conference after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2022-23, CEA V. Ananth Nageswaran said that if GDP continues to grow at around 8%, so 5 trillion dollar economy is possible for India.

 In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had envisioned making India a $5 trillion economy by the financial year 2024-25. In the current financial year, the Indian economy is expected to grow at the rate of 9.2% According to the Economic Survey 2021-22, tabled in Parliament on January 31, GDP growth is likely to be 8 to 8.5 per cent in 2022-23 and 7.1 per cent in 2023-24.
