News Synopsis

India said in a statement on Thursday that it would add 13.5 GW of renewable energy capacity in 2021-22, an increase of 128% from 2020 to 21. India added a utility-scale solar power capacity of 10.21 GW, wind power generation of 1.11 GW, and rooftop solar power generation capacity of 2.22 GW  in 2021-22, the consulting firm BRIDGE TO INDIA said in a statement.

Rajasthan (5,806 MW) and Gujarat (2,469 MW) added the largest capacity in 12 months, accounting for 61% of the total capacity expansion. The total capacity of the renewable energy sector, excluding small hydropower and biomass, now reaches 96,223 MW. The share of total renewable energy generation (excluding large-scale hydropower) also peaked at 12.82% in 2022.

Managing Director, BRIDGE TO INDIA, Vinay Rustagi said, “Renewable sector has shown remarkable resilience in the face of multiple challenges. But it is important to acknowledge that the record high numbers in FY22 came mainly because of the COVID spillover effect from the previous year.” The BRIDGE TO INDIA is a renewable-focused consulting company.
