News Synopsis

The currently under construction Noida International Airport (NIA) at Jewar is set to become India's first digital airport. This aviation hub will provide paperless and contactless services to its passengers at all checkpoints. Not only will such an airport eliminate long lines for ID verification, but it will also save the time and effort of printing tickets and boarding passes and searching for them at multiple checkpoints.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), which is being built in Jewar, will be the first airport in India to facilitate it. A digital airport would have a one-time verification using the ID at the checkpoints. This information will be saved in DigiYatra ID.

Following the one-tie verification, passengers will be subjected to automatic digital processing based on a facial recognition system at checkpoints such as entry-point check, security check, and aircraft boarding. Additionally, self-bag drop and check-in will be facilitated, with facial recognition used to identify passengers and data recall. Digi Yatra will enable paperless travel and eliminate the need for multiple identity checks.

To accomplish this, NIA hired global technology firm ICAD Holding as its master system integrator (MSI) consultant and collaborated with Indian IT behemoth Wipro, which will serve as a sub-consultant to the global tech firm.
