Have you ever heard of the shops without shopkeeper and where you can find the things you need and a deposit box, in which you can put the money for the thing you purchase ? Two states in India have these shops. Read the article to know more about these shops. #ThinkWithNiche.

The place  where we all have been is a shop, where we get the things we need. In the current scenario, there are different type of places we can go for shopping. A shop, a store or the local market, where many of us would have tried to cut down the prices of the product. but would you be able to do that if the shop does not have a shopkeeper.

It may be unbelievable to you, but it is true.The two states of India, Kerala and Mizoram, have shops without shopkeeper.

Nghah Lou Dawr Culture of Mizoram

A tradition called ‘Nghah Lou Dawr Culture’ is followed by people of Mizoram .'Nghah Lou Dawr Culture' means shops without shopkeeper. The culture involves, placing things in the shops on highways and a box for the money. This tradition attracts public attention  , when a twitter page named 'My Home India' was  shared a post with a picture of one of these shops.

The post was a surprise for everyone, when they came to know that along the highway of Seling in Mizoram, there are many shops that have fruits and vegetables and a box for the money. The box is placed for people to  purchase wjatever they want and put the money in the box.

 The tradition of shops without shopkeeper was also appreciated because very worthwhile during the 2020 lockdown. And it presented a great example for social distancing.

The shops were also appreciated because it has set an example that the kindness and generosity still exists in the society. And it helps people to stay positive in such hard times.

The Shop in Azhikode, Kerala

The shop in Azhikode, near Kannur in Kerala, was opened in January of 2019. The shop has everything that you will find in a grocery shop. The shop is opened in the morning and is closed at night at 10:00 PM. This shop also have a money box and the buyers put the amount of the product in the box. The price is mentioned on every product.

The shop was opened by The Janashakti Charitable Trust, and contains the products made by differently abled people. The students of Asraya Special School in Kannur made these product, and get the payment for these product in advance. The vendors collect the products from them and place it in the shop for sale.

The unique concept of self-service shops has proved out to be very successful as it gets the collection of more than Rs. 1000 every day. Seeing the success of this shop, locals have made request to establish more shops like this in the area. Through this they can have access to the products they need and the disabled will have a way to earn money.

The Honest Shops In Around The World

When people in India came to know about these shops, they were surprised and proud, about how these shops were an example to how honesty and humanity still exists. People also came out with the examples of the shops in Switzerland and Germany.

These shops are called The Honest Shops. Indians were happy to see that India also have shops without shopkeepers. Many also said that they thought these kind of things can never exist in India. Upon finding about these shops, they just said that they probably do not know India very well.

No matter what, but these shops have come out as an example of Humanity and Honest that still exist in India and its people. On one hand we see that these shops present a culture that is helpful to travelers and on the other these provide employment to disabled and give them an opportunity to earn a living in the society.
