News Synopsis

Safety tests are a good way to judge whether a car would be able to hold itself together in an accident or not. It also judges the extent of injuries passengers inside the car would sustain in such an accident. These tests determine how safe one actually is on the road. Maruti Suzuki, which is perhaps the most popular and best-selling automotive company in India has time and again failed this test. A Latin American agency called NCAP tested Suzuki's best-selling model, Baleno, and gave zero stars to it. The car failed the test and was deemed unsafe for sale. Baleno, which is a premium model, becomes the second car of Maruti Suzuki to do so. Earlier it was Swift that got zero ratings in the same test.

The agency justified its rating through poor side impact protection and lack of head protection airbags. The Baleno is a made-in-India model which is why it's a matter of double shame. Cars manufactured in India have always had a bad reputation when it comes to safety. Since India is a market for cheap cars, manufacturers try to cut costs by eliminating safety measures.
